Frequently Asked Questions

The Course

  • 7.7 km long course for experienced runners (includes a section of the beautiful Agnes Water beach)
  • 4.8 km intermediate course for those not wanting to get sand in their shoes
  • 1770 m short course for walkers, prams, and children under 10 years
  • The return course takes participants along the bike/footpath along Captain Cook Drive (all 3 courses); down Surf Club Avenue (4.8 & 7.7km); onto Agnes Water beach at low tide (7.7km) and then back to the 1770 Festival SES Grounds

An out and back course, starting at the SES Grounds, on Captain Cook Drive, at the entrance to the Town of 1770.

All participants travel on the bike/footpath parallel to Captain Cook Drive; Intermediate and Long courses cross the road and head down Surf Club Avenue to the beach entrance, where the intermediates turn around and the long course runners get some sand beneath their feet until the next turnaround point.

The Terrain

The short and intermediate courses will be entirely on bitumen. Captain Cook Drive footpath and Surf Club Avenue will be totally closed to traffic for the duration of the event. The course has an incline at the start and then levels out to a generally flat track.  The only hazard is on the long course at the beach access from Surf Club Avenue.  Race Marshalls will be at hand to direct and assist runners.  The beach segment will be mostly on hard sand at low tide.

Event Timings

The event will start at 8.30am. Check in from 7.00am. Please arrive for check-in no later than 7.15am. We need to start on time as the road will reopen to traffic at 9.30am.

There will be a minimal amount of parking at the SES grounds near the start. In addition to this, there will be shuttle buses running from various locations in Agnes Water to the start (and returning to Agnes after the event). Times and pick up points will be advised before race day.

What is the cost to enter?

$27.50 incl GST for adults, and $11 incl GST for those under 18 years of age; children 10 and under are free.

How do I enter?

Select the “Register for the Fun Run” button at the bottom of this page.

Can I enter on the day?

We strongly encourage participants to enter well before the day of the event. This helps organisers greatly in planning for a successful and well-run event. However, we will accept entries on race morning. If you enter on the day, please arrive early, as no entries will be accepted after 8.00 am.

I have entered online. Do I still need to check in on the day?

Yes. At check-in, you will have your name marked off our list, and you will receive your race bib.

What is the race bib for?

Everyone participating needs to wear a race bib (which you pin to the front of your shirt). The bib contains a timing chip, from which you will receive an official finishing time and place. You can also print a finisher’s certificate from the results list. And importantly, from a safety perspective, the bib enables organisers to know who is on the course at any point in time.

For serious runners

The event will be run professionally. We have full road closures in place. And full electronic timing. So if you are considering traveling to our event, we are confident that you will enjoy our run.

For walkers and casual joggers

The organisers want this to be an all-inclusive, whole of community, event. You can walk and talk your way around the course with friends or family, walk with your children, push prams, whatever. The only things we don’t allow on course, due to safety issues, are skateboards, roller skates, pushbikes, and personal music devices.

I would like to run, but…

All ages and fitness levels are welcome. And walkers are just as important as the fastest runners. However, if you would like to use this event to help improve your fitness and get back into shape, that is great. Check out free web-based training plans such as the one below, to help prepare you to run/jog the course.
