The Road Trip to Paradise

Load up the car, grab a bag of snakes for the road, and point the GPS toward paradise. They say the holiday officially starts the moment you pull out of the driveway, and we couldn’t agree more!

Whether you’re coming from the south, the north, or out west, the best way to keep the kids happy (and the relationship loving!) is to treat the drive as part of the adventure. Plan a few strategic stops along the way—search for local playgrounds where the little ones can burn off some steam and quirky country bakeries for a cheeky meat pie or a vanilla slice. 

Accommodation fills up fast for Easter, so get in early! Whether you’re pitching a tent by the beach, “glamping” in a tiny home, or living large in a holiday house, there’s a spot for every budget.

Day 1 – Arrive & Ease Into It

Once you’ve unpacked, kick off the shoes and head straight to 1770. The inlet is basically a giant, crystal-clear bathtub—perfect for a splash to wash off the car trip.

  • For the little ones: Check out the playgrounds at Air Sea Rescue Park or Endeavour Park.
  • Dinner: Wander over to the 1770 Marina for a feed at Barraca by the Sea.
  • Don’t miss: 1770 is one of the only spots on the East Coast where you can watch the sun set right over the water. It’s a proper show-stopper.

Day 2 – Surf, Sun & Secret Lookouts

Start your day with a coffee and an ocean view at Holidays Cafe.

  • Morning: It’s beach time! Grab the boards and head to Main Beach. Our legends in the red and yellow are on duty from 9am–5pm, so keep it safe and swim between the flags.
  • Afternoon: Stretch the legs on the Discovery Trail hike—the view from the top is a winner for the family photo album.
  • Golden Hour: Get out on the water! Join 1770 Liquid Adventures for a kayak, hop on a 1770 Sunset Cruise, or be the boss of your own boat with a hire from Salty Life.

Day 3 – The Big Pink Boat & Tavern Vibes

You can’t come to Agnes and not see the “Big Pink Boats.” Jump on a 1770 LARC! Tours Paradise Tour. It’s an amphibious adventure over sandbars and up to the lighthouse—the kids will be frothing when they sandboard! After a big day of exploring, keep it easy with a hearty pub feed at the Agnes Water Tavern or a relaxed dinner at Drift & Wood.

Day 4 – Reef Magic & Pizza Parties

Today’s the day to tick off the bucket list: The Southern Great Barrier Reef.

  • The Main Event: Head to the 1770 Marina and set sail with 1770 Reef or Dive Spear and Sport. You’ll be snorkelling with turtles and gazing at coral in no time.
  • Dinner: After a massive day of Vitamin Sea, you’ll be starving. Grab a couple of boxes from Round Hill Road Pizza for a chill night, or hit up Thai Home for some seriously good authentic flavours.

Day 5 – Hidden Gems & One Last Play

Don’t rush off just yet! Grab a garden breakfast at La Caravana before taking a quiet stroll along Workman’s Beach or Chinaman’s Beach.

  • Final Energy Burn: Give the kids one last run-around at the Agnes Water Playground at Jeffrey Court.
  • The Grand Finale: You’re right across the road from Codie’s Place, so grab a final burger or a cheeky cold drink before you say goodbye to paradise.
