About the Festival
The Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival is a three-day celebration of music, culture and community, held annually in the coastal Town of 1770. Now in its 17th year, ABRR attracts over 1,000 individuals across the 3 day event. The festival showcases emerging and established blues and roots artists, immersive workshops, artisan markets and sustainability initiatives, offering an unforgettable experience on the Southern Great Barrier Reef.ย
Position Summary
The Event Coordinator is responsible for the planning, logistics and delivery of the Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival. Working closely with the Discovery Coast Tourism & Commerce Inc General Manager and a core contractor and volunteer team, the role requires seamless execution of the event. This includes, but is not limited to, promotion and marketing, ticket sales, artist liaison, vendor management, onsite operations, licenses and approvals, and post-event reporting.
Key Responsibilities

Planning & Logistics
- Develop and maintain detailed project timelines, run sheets, and checklists
- Secure suitable permits, insurance, and council approvals
- Coordinate infrastructure needs including staging, production, fencing, amenities, security, waste and traffic management.
- Update Risk Mgmt Plan as required.ย
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with artists, production crew, food and market stallholders
- Work with tourism operators and accommodation providers to facilitate ‘Stay & Play’ packages
- Engage local community groups and volunteers to support operations and activations.
Marketing and Sponsorship Support
- Support the delivery of the festival marketing plan including ticketing updates, artist announcements and social media content coordination
- Develop, secure, and manage corporate sponsorship partnerships to support the festival’s growth and financial sustainability.ย ย ย
- Assist with signage plans, merchandise coordination, and marketing and sponsorship collateral development and distribution.
Onsite Delivery
- Oversee event bump-in and bump-out
- Manage front-of-house operations and volunteer coordination
- Act as the primary point of contact during the festival for all suppliers, stakeholders and emergency response.
Post-Event Reporting
- Support collection of attendance data and feedback surveys
- Assist in any grant acquittal requirements
- Archive documentation and provide recommendations for future years.
Support in any other area that may be needed / requested.
Selection Criteria
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the local community and tourism sector
- Experience working with volunteers and community stakeholders
- First aid or crowd control training
- Familiarity with grant-funded reporting requirements (e.g. QDEP, LGA, Arts Queensland
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in event or festival coordination
- Proactive by nature, excellent time management, budgeting and organisational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Flexibility to work weekends and evenings during the event period
- Current driverโs licence.
Term & Remuneration
- Contracted role from approximately 1 June 2026 to 31 March 2027
- Flexible work arrangements with increased hours in the lead-up to the event, which is 19-21 February, 2027
- Compensation based on experience
