Join Us for a Community Gathering for Reconciliation Week & Mabo Day.
Come together on Gooreng Gooreng Country for a meaningful community event led by local Gooreng Gooreng families, honouring culture, truth-telling, and the shared journey of reconciliation.
As we recognise both National Reconciliation Week and Mabo Day, this gathering creates space for our community to reflect on the history and ongoing significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ connection to Country, and to walk forward together in respect and understanding.
Event Highlights Include:
Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Gooreng Gooreng Traditional Owner Taurean Roe and Family
Community yarns and reflections, including local perspectives on reconciliation and the significance of Mabo Day
Cultural sharing through dance and storytelling
Interactive activities for all ages, including:
Cultural displays led by local families
Reflection and truth-telling activities
Children’s colouring and learning space
Oka (string-making) and emu feather activities
This event is grounded in local knowledge, culture, and community connection providing an opportunity for our Discovery Coast community to listen, learn, and stand together in respect.
