The 1770 Dragons are a friendly and competitive dragon boat club with a proud history.
Formed in 2009 with the donation of their first boat, Cameron Young, the club has grown into a welcoming community of around 45 members of all ages and fitness levels. With a focus on fitness, fun, and friendship, the Dragons train three times a week on the pristine waters of Bustard Bay and also enjoy social paddles and cross-training in outriggers.
The club competes in the Greater Wide Bay Regatta Series and has proudly medalled at both State and National Titles. Each year they also host their own regatta on the 1770 foreshore, drawing paddlers from across the region.
New paddlers are always welcome, with Saturday sessions recommended for beginners. Training is held at the 1770 Marina, next to the VMR building, and usually followed by a friendly “Dragons Breakfast” at the Marina Café.
Come and join the 1770 Dragons — where teamwork, community spirit, and the joy of paddling come together!
