In it’s 27th year, the Gladstone Region 1770 Festival revolves around Surf, Soul & Sound experiences. There are new additions that are bound to wet your appetite – from the Surf Workshop and Fishing Precinct, to the Soul Garden; plus the old favourites including the annual street parade with this year’s theme all about Harmony in our Paradise. 24 May – Cook’s Landing Re-enactment

The 1770 Festival presents a live re-enactment of Cook’s landing on Friday 24 May 2019 at Air Sea Rescue Park on the 1770 Foreshore. The event commences at 4pm with performance time to be confirmed closer to the date. The re-enactment is historically accurate with the cast in authentic costumes made in England.  Witness James Cook, Daniel Solander, Joseph Banks and crew row ashore and land on the beach of 1770.  Their visit may have been short, but you will be interested to see and listen to what they saw and heard on this scientific voyage.[/vc_column_text][kleo_button title=”Learn more about the Reenactment” href=”https://www.visitagnes1770.com.au/1770-festival/reenactment/” style=”highlight” position=”center” size=”xl” icon=”0″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”surfworkshop”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5911″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

Scotty Hillier and Olivia Degn to star at Fishing Precinct

We are excited to have Creek to Coast presenters, Scott Hillier and Olivia Degn staring to the 1770 Festival’s first ever ‘Fishing Precinct.”  Scott has been part of Creek to Coast for the past 10 years, primarily as host of the show and can’t wait to share some of his stories from his travels.  While Olivia is fairly new to Creek to Coast, she has a background in Marine Biology and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge.  A welcome addition to the 1770 Festival, Scott and Olivia will soon have you hooked on the outdoors and fishing.A fishing precinct isn’t complete without a display of boats, fishing gear, maps, reels and rods, and you’ll get professional advice on anything above and below the water.

Fishing Precinct Workshops

There are free Fishing Precinct Workshops being held on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May.  The workshops are repeated at different times over two days to ensure as many people as possible can attend.  Each day the workshops present professional advice in rod making and repairs; rod, reel and tackle choices; casting tips; knots; knowing your zones; as well as presentations from Scotty and Olivia.Let’s not forget the casting and cast net throwing competitions – fun for all ages!Whether you’re an avid fisherman or a novice, there will be something for you at the 1770 Festival’s Fishing Precinct. [/vc_column_text][kleo_button title=”Get your free Fishing Workshop Tickets here!” href=”https://www.visitagnes1770.com.au/1770-festival/tickets/#festival” style=”highlight” position=”center” size=”xl” icon=”0″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”motocross”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”6071″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

The Great Family Fun Adventure

Proudly supported by Agnes Water Beach Holidays, the Great Family Fun Adventure is an adventure the whole family can enjoy while travelling around the festival grounds and learning about history, botany, and flora as you progress through the story. This is not a competition to see who comes first, so take your time and enjoy. Get it all right, and your entry will go in the draw for a reward the entire family can enjoy. The Adventure starts with an Adventure guide that will have you exploring history, flora, and fauna just like Lt. James Cook, Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander did when they came ashore in 1770.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”entertainment”][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”6050″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

Agnes Water Tavern Spectacular Fireworks

One of the many highlights at the 1770 Festival is the annual fireworks spectacular – this year, proudly sponsored by the Agnes Water Tavern.  This is the only fireworks show in our twin towns of Agnes Water & 1770, and is a  ‘first’ fireworks experience for most of our local children.  Imagine a perfectly clear sky full of stars and then an explosion of sound and light as the fireworks spectacular commences, prompted by the MC countdown.Following the Kid’s Lantern Parade, the Agnes Water Tavern Spectacular Fireworks display commences at 7pm on Saturday 25 May.

Not to be missed!
