The Re-enactment of Cooks Landing – held on Friday 24 May 2019
National heritage and entertainment combine for this family-friendly event. Join us on Friday 24 May 2019 for a live performance on 1770 beach which retells the historic occasion of Lieutenant James Cook’s first landing in what later became the beautiful town of 1770.
The Reenactment is a must-see event and promises to educate and excite both young and old alike. Beginning at 4 pm and ending at 8 pm, guests will also be in the perfect position to enjoy the blissful sunset over the bay.
Food and beverage stalls will be in place to provide refreshment for the afternoon, and amenities are accessible close by. A playground is nearby to help keep little ones busy.
Free parking is provided at the SES Showgrounds for attendees, and shuttle services will take guests to Air Sea Rescue Park in 1770. A gold coin donation is appreciated.
Saturday 25 May 2019 – Surf, Soul & Sound
The 1770 Festival begins with the annual street parade themed “Harmony in Paradise”. Come and see how our business and community interpret this theme. Spectators will be able to vote for their favourite parade entry on their mobile phones and a new parade entry will be announced.
The Opening Ceremony and Welcome to Country follow the parade, and Indigenous cultural celebrations.

The Opp Shop Fashion Show will rival the famous catwalks of Paris, and be a hit with fashion aficionados. Cooks trivia contest, painting of the Harmony Wall, Just for Kids Zone,the Soul Garden, Children’s Amusement rides, Food Street & Retail Ally, Honours Day award, lantern parade from the Kids, an auction, fireworks spectacular, join in the surf lounge and the sounds of 19Twenty on stage. a great Day One!
Sunday 26 May 2019 – Surf, Soul & Sound continues on Day Two
Early birds join in the Aquathon starting at Main Beach and back to SES Grounds.
Bring your boards for the Surfboard Swap meet at the Festival. Buy, sell or exchange. You may be lucky and find a vintage board.
The Vanilla Slice War II is on today and the Gladstone region is out to take the crown off the 2018 vanilla slice champion. This is our sweetest event.
Entertainment on stage, Food Street and Retail Ally, the second day of Cook’s Trivia Contest and once again the band 19Twenty on stage to close the Festival.
