Acoustic Guitar Spectacular Workshop | Agnes Water

Acoustic Guitar Spectacular returns to Gladstone this August. Join critically acclaimed Brisbane guitarist Michael Fix and fellow-Queenslanders Minnie Marks and Sam Shepherd in three 45-minute guitar workshops.

Workshops are suitable for all ages and skill levels. Recommended for adults and music students. Attendees are required to bring their own guitar.

Workshop 1: BAG OF LICKS, POCKETFUL OF TRICKS
Time/ Date: 2pm, Saturday 5 August
Duration: 45 minutes
Presenter: Sam Shepherd

In this unique lesson, Sam presents his approach to the many facets of acoustic guitar. He covers a wide variety of licks and tricks that attendees can take away and use immediately to enhance and improve their own playing. This lesson will open up new ideas and provide direction for the student of acoustic guitar. Sam’s intention is to make sure that everyone attending his lesson leaves with some new skill or skills that they didn’t have at the start of the lesson.

Workshop 2: DIRTY BLUES RIFFS
Time/ Date: 3pm, Saturday 5 August
Duration: 45 minutes
Presenter: Minnie Marks

In this workshop you’ll learn how to construct dirty, funky/bluesy riffs that will get people stomping their feet, screwing up their faces and rock back and forwards. Bring along a slide as we’ll touch on fretting behind the slide on acoustic guitar and other tips and tricks of exciting yourself to excite others.

Workshop 3: GUITAR EXPLORATIONS
Time/ Date: 4pm, Saturday 5 August
Duration: 45 minutes
Presenter: Michael Fix

Learn the fine art of fingerstyle guitar and explore the mechanics of arranging popular tunes in a variety of styles for solo guitar. Michael has one rule: “there are no rules!” and this idea is reinforced by demonstrating thought-provoking ideas, tips and tricks. Michael presents his workshops in a breezy, humorous style, answering questions and addressing issues with personal anecdotes. As Michael explains at the beginning of each session: “we are here because we all have one thing in common – we all love the guitar! There are no secrets here – I’m happy to show you anything you wish to know about.”

2 local performers from the workshop will be invited to perform at the beginning of the Acoustic Guitar Spectacular show.
